With the economic downturn, many families consider a beach vacation a luxury rather than a necessity. However, choosing your vacation rental in a popular resort along the Emerald Coast, can be surprisingly affordable. Let me tell you how!

1. Vacation Off Season
Florida is sunny all year round, so consider taking a vacation outside the main summer season, when beach house rental fees are lower.

2. Go in Big Groups
Another tip for saving money is to book a larger vacation home and share it with family. Some homes provide space for up to 12 guests, making the price per person very affordable – and you get onsite babysitters if you want a romantic evening out.

3. Eat In
There are plenty of ways to have fun along the Emerald Coast without spending a fortune. For example, by making use of the fully equipped kitchens and stocking the refrigerator with supermarket products, you may be surprised to discover that the costs of a vacation rental are little more than if you stayed at home.

4. The Beach is Free!
Families can happily spend all day swimming, sunbathing and playing in the sand. Consider that some vacation rental companies like ours provide complimentary beach chairs, umbrella, boogie board and sand toys. We would highly recommend using those items rather than paying for daily rentals on the beach.

5. Free Activities
Emerald Coast is a hub of activity, both on and off the beach. There is a long fishing pier, boat ramps and a water park close by. Fresh air and outdoor fun are readily available in a sunny destination. For instance, Sandestin® Golf and Beach Resort  is a great place for walking, running or biking, which can be free if you bring your own bike or can be quite affordable if you decide to rent in the area. Always check with your vacation rental company if they offer discounts on any activities in the area.

6. Discounted Group Rates
Fishing in the Gulf of Mexico is one of the main attractions here. Chartering a skippered boat can easily cost hundreds of dollars a day, but booking a place on a larger fishing trip can be less than $70 per person. Bait is supplied, and the gulf is teeming with fish eager to bite. The value of a good catch will offset most of the cost of the trip itself. There are also plenty of golf courses in the area. Keep in mind, some rental companies offer discounts, like ours. Make sure always ask for it. The Gulfarium is a popular family attraction. Snorkeling, body surfing, windsurfing and parasailing are all available in the clear, emerald-colored waters.

7. Good Deals!
Miramar Beach Area offers many opportunities for shopping. There are plenty of smaller shops along the beach, along with several shopping malls. You can always find a good deal there! For instance, Silver Sands Outlet Mall offers luxury brands at bargain prices in over 200 stores.

8. Free Family Entertainment
The calendar of fun events includes free family entertainment. The Billy Bowlegs Parade and Blessing of the Fishing Fleet take place in June, followed soon after by the 4th of July Parade and fireworks. In October, Miramar Beach hosts a Seafood Festival, Art Festival and Fishing Rodeo. It also offers wine tasting, jazz fests and musical festivals throughout the year.

So, come on down and join the fun!
