Every season can be beach season—not just the summer! With cooler temperatures, stunning sunsets and exciting events, fall is a wonderful time of year to visit Florida. Here are a few tips about where to stay in Destin and how to make the most of your autumn getaway.
Watch the Beautiful Sunsets
Gulf Coast sunsets seem to be even more vibrant in the fall! Watch the sky change colors and the sun dip below the horizon as you take a leisurely stroll along the coastline or unwind with a glass of wine and take in the view from the balcony of your vacation rental. There are numerous spots to enjoy the stunning scenery!
Enjoy Outdoor Activities
While summer can be too hot and humid for certain activities, fall is the perfect time of year to spend time outside. Obviously the beach is the main attraction, but Destin and 30A boast a variety of recreational options:
Go for a hike. These are some of the best trails in Okaloosa and Walton Counties.
Enjoy a delicious meal on the patio of your vacation rental or your favorite restaurant.
Bike along 30A. Make your way from Dune Allen to Rosemary Beach without being surrounded by the summer crowds.
Visit parks and playgrounds. Captain Leonard Destin Park recently opened and is a favorite for both kids and adults!
Relax with your toes in the sand. It’s still plenty warm to sunbathe and enjoy your favorite beach day activities.
Partake in the Destin Fishing Rodeo. Anglers flock to Destin in the fall for the annual tournament, which is held October 1 – 31.
Check Out Fall Festivals and Events
As the weather cools down, event season heats up! It’s a great time of year to be outdoors, so the calendar is filled with festivals, farmers markets and other outdoor entertainment.
Baytowne Wharf Beer Fest. Sample and savor your favorite local and national beers Friday, October 8 and Saturday, October 9 at The Village of Baytowne Wharf! This popular festival will feature over 200 domestic and international craft beers, offering an opportunity to learn about the different types of lagers and ales from a variety of styles. There will also be live music at this lively event!
Best of the Emerald Coast. This event showcases Emerald Coast Magazine’s “Best of the Emerald Coast” winners and will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Grand Boulevard in Sandestin. It’s a night of food, fashion and fun as festivalgoers sample food and drinks from local businesses.
Festival of the Arts. Get ready for a weekend of art, music, food and fun for the whole family! Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation presents the 26th Annual Festival of the Arts October 30 & 31. Check out art exhibits from more than 100 artists while also sampling the local culinary scene and getting a beverage at the beer and wine garden.
Shop for Fall Fashions
Destin and 30A both offer numerous shopping options. From your favorite national brands to local boutiques, you’ll definitely find something stylish for the upcoming season! Destin Commons, Grand Boulevard and Silver Sands Premium Outlets are outdoor shopping centers with stores and restaurants that everyone in the family will love. You can also find unique pieces at locally owned boutiques such as Kiki Risa, Indigo, Mercantile, and Ophelia just to name a few.
Find Seasonal Produce at the Farmers Markets
At the farmers markets along 30A, you’ll find vendors selling fresh vegetables, pumpkins, ready-to-eat crab cakes, cold pressed juices, homemade bread, natural bath and body products, dog treats and more. It’s a great way to pick up produce for a recipe, get a quick bite to eat before heading to the beach, or find a locally made souvenir. Here’s the weekly lineup:
Grand Boulevard: Fridays and Saturdays from 9am – 1pm
Seaside: Saturdays and Sundays from 9am – 1pm
Rosemary Beach: Every Sunday from 9am – 1pm
