Things to Do
At My Vacation Haven, we know pets are family. If you’re planning a beach getaway and want to bring your four-legged friend along, you’ll be happy to know there are plenty of dog-friendly activities in Destin and the surrounding Emerald Coast.

From parks and scenic trails to harbor strolls and boating adventures, here are five great ways to enjoy Destin with your pup.

1. Let Them Run at Nancy Weidenhamer Dog Park

Located at the Destin Community Center, Nancy Weidenhamer Dog Park remains one of the most popular spots for local and visiting pups. This approximately three-acre fenced park includes separate areas for large and small dogs, shaded seating, watering stations, and plenty of room to run.

It’s a great place to let your dog burn off energy before heading back to relax at your vacation rental.

2. Stroll Along Scenic Highway 98 (Old Scenic 98)

Old Scenic Highway 98 is perfect for a morning or sunset walk with your dog. This pedestrian-friendly stretch runs alongside the Gulf, offering beautiful views of the white sand beaches and emerald water.

Several locally owned restaurants along the route offer pet-friendly outdoor seating. Camille’s at Crystal Beach continues to be a favorite stop for coffee, smoothies, and casual bites with your pup by your side.

Please note: Okaloosa County regulations still prohibit dogs on public Gulf beaches in Destin, so stick to sidewalks and designated pet areas.

3. Explore Henderson Beach State Park (Trails & Campground Areas)

While dogs are not permitted on the beach itself, Henderson Beach State Park does allow leashed pets in the campground and on the park’s nature trail.

The scenic trail (just under a mile) winds through coastal scrub and dune ecosystems, offering a peaceful way to experience native Florida landscapes. It’s an easy walk, though sandy in areas, so comfortable shoes are recommended.

4. Walk the Destin Harbor Boardwalk

The Destin Harbor Boardwalk continues to be a lively, dog-friendly walking destination. Stretching nearly a mile along the waterfront, it’s lined with charter boats, seafood restaurants, shops, and seasonal events.

Leashed dogs are welcome along the boardwalk, and many restaurants with outdoor seating are pet-friendly. It’s a great place to enjoy harbor views, watch boats come and go, and soak in the energy of “The World’s Luckiest Fishing Village.”

5. Take Your Pup Boating (Yes, Really!)

Many local pontoon rental companies allow dogs onboard, making a boat day one of the most memorable dog-friendly experiences in Destin.

Cruise through Choctawhatchee Bay, anchor near Crab Island (note: check current safety advisories and seasonal regulations), or find a quiet cove where your pup can enjoy the breeze. Always bring fresh water, shade, and a canine life vest for safety.
