Things to Know

Next to booking a vacation, packing is the most important aspect of travel. You want to ensure you have the right clothing and accessories that reflect the weather and the activities you wish to enjoy.

When traveling to Florida for a 30A vacation, what should you pack to make the most of your trip? You know you need to pack the essentials, such as underwear, socks, tops, shorts, and toiletries, but there are a few items that should make it into your suitcase before you head to the Gulf. Read on to learn about the 10 things to pack for any 30A vacation.

10 Must-Pack Items for a 30A Vacation

When you’re heading to the Gulf to enjoy the weather, the beaches, and the golf courses, here are a few must-have items to make your trip a success. Here’s what to pack:

  1. Bathing suits: Packing bathing suits when planning a trip to 30A seems like a no-brainer, but the key is in how many suits to bring. You want to bring a minimum of two bathing suits, especially if you won’t have access to a dryer during your stay. Two suits allows one to dry while you spend the day in the other on the sugar-white sands. Because nothing says ‘vacation downer’ like having to put on a wet bathing suit. But if you do need an extra suit for the beach (or hot tub during the cooler months!), try Ophelia at Grand Boulevard.

  2. Sunscreen: You can’t come to the Gulf without sunscreen. That Florida sun is no joke, and while we know you want to soak in that vitamin D, you also want to ensure you’re keeping your skin safe. It truly can be the most important thing in your beach bag. Bring at least a bottle per person depending on the length of your stay.

  3. Sunglasses: Just like sunscreen, sunglasses are a must. Keep your eyes safe and comfortable by grabbing a nice pair of shades for your trip. Getting polarized lenses is always a better option if you can swing it!

  4. Hat: If you plan on staying at the beach or pool for long periods of time, golfing during your trip, or even spending time hiking at one of the Gulf’s many nature reserves, having a hat can keep your head and face safe from the sun and heat. Opt for one that contains SPF for added protection.

  5. Beach coverup: Most of us like to spend as much time as we can in the sun, but that doesn’t mean it’s a great idea for the body. Pack a beach coverup of some kind so you can stay in the sun without harming your skin, especially if you enjoy swimming in the turquoise sea. You can also find these items with SPF infused into the material!

  6. Sneakers/comfortable walking shoes: Destin has so much to offer. From its nature reserves and sandy beaches to its high-end outlet malls and golf courses, you might find yourself on your feet more than you think! That’s why it’s a great idea to pack a comfortable pair of shoes for long walks and exploration. Flip flops are great for the beach, but if you plan on any Destin adventures, bring a pair of walking shoes, just in case.

  7. One nice outfit for dinner: You may or may not plan on having your meals out each night, but if you choose, you have a choice of upscale 30A restaurants. Pack at least one nice outfit, such as a dress or button-down shirt with slacks, and have a night on the town with loved ones and friends. Now all you have to do is decide where to eat on 30A.

  8. Good book or Kindle: With the sun, the sand, and the pools all around, you definitely have to bring something to read. Maybe you’re a book person or maybe you have a Kindle filled with options. No matter your reader of choice, be sure to bring a book, so you can soak in the sun, the Florida vibes, and the latest fiction.

  9. Light jacket or long-sleeve: Even though it gets hot in the summer in Florida, your accommodation, stores, and restaurants will definitely have AC. Bringing at least one long-sleeve item is a must to ensure you’re comfortable everywhere you go.

  10. Beach gear: Some rentals and hotels will offer beach gear as part of your accommodation, but if not, grabbing some beach chairs and an umbrella will help you enjoy the beach. You can rent, but you’ll be fighting the crowds and paying each day. Researching the area and bringing your own items can help you avoid costly prices and highly trafficked areas.

Your packing list for a 30A vacation will be vastly longer than this one, but these essential items are a must for any Gulf getaway. Make your list, check it twice, and get ready for the vacation of your dreams!
