Things to Do

Don’t tell anyone else, but the best time to visit the beach is in the fall. The weather is a little cooler (but still warm enough for tank tops and flips flops during the day) and the traffic is a lot lighter. The beaches are still beautiful, and the to-dos are still doable. In fact, speaking of to-dos, as you plan your fall getaway, check out our list of the best things to do at the beach this fall.

Tour the Farmers Markets

Farmer’s markets are a fun, family-friendly way to enjoy your morning coffee while at the beach. Farmer’s markets not only have delicious fresh, local produce, cheeses, pickles, breads, oils, and honeys (perfect for a picnic!), but they also have arts, crafts, soaps, flowers, live music, and other curiosities that make the day delightful.

Different communities have different markets on the weekends, so plan to spend at least one Saturday or Sunday morning touring farmers markets at the beach this fall.

  • 30A Farmer’s Market at Rosemary Beach on Sundays 9 AM to 1 PM

  • 30A Farmer’s Market at Grand Boulevard on Saturdays 9 AM to 1 PM

  • Seaside Farmer’s Market in Seaside on Saturdays 9 AM to 1 PM

  • WaterColor Coastal Farmer’s Market on Sundays 9 AM to 1 PM

Practice Yoga on the Beach this Fall

Whether your run, cycle, kayak, walk, lift weights, or abstain from sweating altogether, practicing yoga on the beach is a transcendent experience that helps you calm your mind, regulate your central nervous system, and connect your mind, body, and spirit with nature. It’s also a great way to stretch and to make your body feel great from the inside out.

Check out Beach Yoga 30A and find a class to join at the beach this fall. Even if you’re not a yogi, can’t touch your knees, and have the balance of an acorn on a hill, there is still much to be gained from the experience of practicing yoga on the beach (and yoga really is a practice).

Kayak, Fish, or Stand-Up-Paddle at Least Once

While it goes without saying you’ll venture out to the beach (the lure of those emerald-green waters is irresistible), you may not know about the many amazing kayak, stand-up paddle (aka, YOLO) board, or fishing ventures worth doing at the beach this fall.

Going out on the water for the day is best to do in the fall because it’s not quite as hot and you can really enjoy the sights and the experience. There are plenty of places to rent from like Bearded Beach Hippie in Mirimar Beach and the Rental Shop on 30A

Rent a Bicycle & Ride Around the Beach This Fall

After exploring by sea, it only makes sense that you explore the beach by land this fall. The Bearded Beach Hippie also rents bicycles as does 30A Bicycle Rentals among other places. Cruising around the beach on a bike is a great way to see different locales, discover restaurants to dine at, and shops to shop at.

Biking is also the perfect fall beach activity for sight-seeing. You’ll discover the perfect photo op spots at the beach while riding along bicycle paths and trails around the area.

Play Through on the Golf Course

Golf is one of those games that anyone can play, and with so many beautiful courses in the area, it seems fitting that playing around of golf is one of the things that you do at the beach this fall. With a coolness on the salty breeze, a day on the greens will be invigorating. All you have to do is reserve your tee time and then enjoy some much-needed “me” time.

Stay Up Late for a Beach Bonfire

Fall evenings at the beach can get kind of chilly, but you still want to enjoy the splendor of nature. This is why fall is the perfect time to set up a beach bonfire…except, don’t do it yourself (really, don’t…there are laws and regulations surrounding beach bonfires). Have a company such as 30A Blaze or Light Me Up Beach Bonfires take care of the dirty work. You just grab a sweater and get ready to snuggle in for a cozy evening of crackling logs and rolling waves.

Commemorate Your Trip with a Photo Session

Finally, one lovely thing to do at the beach is to take a little bit of it home with you (and no, we don’t mean sand in your socks). One thing you won’t regret doing at the beach this fall is booking a sunset photo session with a talented local photographer who specializes in this kind of work. Among those we’d recommend are:

You’ll be glad you took the time out of your trip to commemorate it. These frameable memories along with those that you carry in your heart last a life time allowing you to always revisit your time at the beach this fall.

There’s nothing like a fall beach getaway. The water is still beautiful; the summer’s heat has let up; the traffic is lighter…and best of all…there’s plenty of things to do.
