Celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. 3 day weekend along the Emerald Coast!

“Faith is taking the first step,
even when you don’t see the whole staircase.”
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Winter break isn’t even a distant memory and there’s already a three-day weekend coming out along the Emerald Coast. Whether you are not sure what to do, as far as activities, indoor fun, or educational ways to celebrate Martin Luther King Day, My Vacation Haven has got some ideas to keep your family busy this weekend.

About this holiday:

Martin Luther King Day is an American federal holiday marking the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. It is observed on the third Monday of January each year, which is around King’s birthday, January 15. This year it falls on January 18, 2016. The Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday celebrates the life and legacy of a man who brought hope and healing to America. This Holiday honors the life free of racism, but full of justice and equality, the leader who not only dreamed of a color-blind society, but who also lead a movement that achieved historic reforms to help make it a reality.

What to do:
The Holiday provides a unique opportunity to teach young people the values of nonviolence, including unconditional love, tolerance, forgiveness and reconciliation, which are so desperately-needed to unify America. It is a day of intensive education and training in Martin’s philosophy and methods of nonviolent social change and conflict-reconciliation.
