Grayton Beach is unique in that it has a beach bordering the Gulf of Mexico and Western Lake. Western Lake is one of South Walton’s Coastal Dune lakes. These lakes only exist in a few places in the whole world and Walton County is lucky enough to be home to several of them. At times the outflow will bust open and flow right out into the Gulf of Mexico. 4 hours give you plenty of time to explore both bodies of water.

What to Wear:
In short, wear whatever is comfortable and weather appropriate. Shoes, flops or bare feet are all acceptable. The sun can be intense even late in the day and conditions can change quickly so a hat, sunglasses, long sleeves or other sun/weather protection should be considered. Also, keep in mind that Hydrobikes have a chain just like a land bike so please don’t wear anything that is overly loose below your shins as it could get caught in the chain. In most cases, you will not get wet unless you choose to so bathing suits are optional. Hydrobikes are stable and easy to jump off of and climb back onto. This makes swimming a fun option.
What to Bring:
Camera
Sunscreen
Bug Spray
Comfort items
Medicine if needed
Although it is unlikely that your stuff will get wet, anything could happen so bring a dry bag for those items you want to protect..
***We have sunscreen, dry bags, sunglass leashes and other items available for purchase but we do not have a store onsite so please make your order in advance and we will have your items ready for you at the dock.

Food For Thought Membership Party on 5/19 at 6pm

Join Food For Thought Outreach’s fight against hunger by becoming a Member! Click here to sign up or attend the first annual Membership Party on Thursday, May 19th at 6:00PM at our Santa Rosa Beach Pantry to receive more info!
Supporters of local nonprofit, Food For Thought Outreach, now have a new way to give back to those in need. Food For Thought has introduced their Annual Membership program for 2016-2017. For a contribution of just $90 a year, individuals can now join the fight against child hunger in a direct way.
The organization will host their first Membership Party on May 19th, starting at 6:00pm at their Santa Rosa Beach Pantry off Hwy 393 North. New members will be able to purchase their membership at the Party or online at fftfl.org prior to the event. Members will receive their Advocate Packets and learn more about how their contribution directly affects students in our area, how they can volunteer, and more!
Guests will be treated to a Peanut Butter & Jelly Bar hosted by Chef Shane’s Gourmet Take Away where they will receive to-order PB&J sandwiches and “Pantry-Style” food. Local favorite, Grayton Beer Company, will also be at the Membership Party serving some of their most popular brews.
“We are excited to start this new program and way of giving in our community. For less than what it costs for the average person to go out to lunch, to buy a single movie ticket, or two lattes, someone in our community can make a difference in the life of a local student. For $7.50 a month, a child will now have access to easy-to-prepare, nutritional snacks and meals to bridge the gap from the lunch they receive Friday until breakfast Monday morning,” says Founder and Executive Director, Tiffanie Nelson.
Moving into its sixth year, Food For Thought Outreach started by providing 6 Walton County students with weekly backpacks and now has grown to serving 1,200 students from Freeport to Fort Walton Beach across 16 schools and 2 counties. Over 1,000,000 food items will be distributed this school year and the organization only expects to grow in the coming years. Over 30,000 individuals are deemed food insecure in Walton and Okaloosa counties and Food For Thought wants to ensure they never have to turn away a family, a student, a school in need.
To learn more and to sign up for your Membership, visit www.fftfl.org/products/annual-membership today!
If you or someone you know would like to donate time, funds, or services to the project please email info@fftfl.org

Franko Fest at Trebeache’ on 5/19 at 7pm

Trebeaché in Blue Mountain Beach is hosting Franko Fest on Thursday, May 19 from 6pm till midnight or until the music runs out. Franko Fest is a community celebration in support of our own beloved artist and musician Franko “Washboard” Jackson as he prepares for medical treatment and recovery. The night will feature many outstanding local musicians on stage, the best of food and cold drinks, a silent auction, and a special Jackson Art Showcase.
Imagine the music at a real hometown throwdown honoring a fellow music man. You’ll see Dread Clampitt, The Steenos, Hubba Hubba, Old Truck Bluegrass, John Hoormann, Duck Phat, Matt Miller, TK Bardwell, John Reinlie and more talented artists on stage. All bring a lifetime devotion to his craft and each of them loves the others like brothers. Look out.
The show will take place upstairs on the events stage. Tickets are available at the door. Franko Fest is a community fundraiser planned by loving friends for everyone to come together, contribute and enjoy.
Franko has been approved for liver transplant at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. Although his medical insurance covers much of the treatment, the Clinic requires a certain amount to be available to pay for first year of recovery/treatment expenses not covered by insurance. Friends of Franko from all over are coming together to help meet the goal of raising at least $20,000. As soon as goal is met, Franko’s status on the transplant list will be activated. See Franko’s Medical Gofundme account to contribute now.
Up for auction is a washboard piece signed by the musicians from the evening. Also, a Jackson Gallery Showcase of folk art collection will be on display.
Franko Fest will take place at Trebeache in Blue Mountain Beach in the upstairs event space from 7pm till midnight. The cash only event is $10 for music only, $25 wristband for music and food, $5 per drink donation.
Washboard Jackson is big part of South Walton’s music scene and performs regularly at Stinky’s Fish Camp and throughout the Emerald Coast of Florida. You’ll find him collaborating with many artists on stage, playing the washboard and singing “Sweet Potato Pie”. Long a member of the legendary Sowal band Hubba Hubba, he has worked with and started a number of bands around here. His music is part rock, part New Orleans and a lot of soul.
Franko is not only a much sought after musician, but is also a folk artist of some note. He began painting about 15 years ago at the urging his wife, Eileen West, and good friend the late Woody Long, a successful South Walton folk artist. His artwork is as rustic, folksy and colorful as his music.
Join the SoWal community at Franko Fest Thursday, May 19 starting at 7pm. It’s going to be a really good time for the best cause ever. Pick up a Franko t-shirt and enjoy the show.
There is a gofundme account where contributions are accepted: Franko’s Medical Transplant.

Bryan Kennedy is a singer/songwriter living on the gulf coast of Florida and spends most of his time on the road to Nashville, touring and then back to the beaches of South Walton…  His show brings good music to the stage as well as humor that quite often will tug on your heartstrings. You will leave most entertained and refreshed with a smile in your heart.
South Walton’s own Forrest Williams Band is an award-winning favorite on stage among locals and visitors to the area. Growing up in the hills of Arkansas, Forrest picked up the guitar when he was 14 years old and has been playing ever since. He grew up listening to Rock, Blues, Country, and Folk music from the 60’s up to present day, which has influenced his songwriting. His style covers a variety of music, incorporating the acoustic guitar and the harmonica.
The Backyard of Love is a beautiful and quaint little hidden gem in heart of Grayton Beach. Situated on the grounds of Hibiscus Coffee & Guesthouse, under a canopy of old, majestic oaks, this cozy spot is the perfect place to enjoy good food, some sweet tunes, and good friends.
