PBS “10 Towns that Changed America” Screening at Seaside REO Theatre – January 11th at 7:30pm
A partial screening and presentation of PBS special series “10 Towns that Changed America” will be held at Seaside Repertory Theatre on Monday, January 11 at 7:30 pm. Host Geoffrey Baer and producer Dan Andries of the PBS special series “10 that Changed America” will be in Seaside to present a partial screening of one of three films that take a look at America’s built environment. Using a variety of platforms — online, through a curriculum and at live events around the country — the films explore the ten homes, parks and towns that were selected as game-changers in American planning and architecture. Seaside made the cut for “10 Towns that Changed America,” the third film in the series. It offers a primer in the history of urban planning and follows the evolution of the car-dependent suburb. Through interviews with innovative city planners, viewers will learn the steps that have been taken by city planners to reinvent urban living resulting in the current trend of walkable, transit-oriented development. At the screening, Baer and Andries will show clips from several of the towns, including Seaside, and explain what they are trying to accomplish with the three-part series, which will debut in April. A question/answer period will follow. The Seaside Institute is sponsoring this event, which is free and open to the public. Reservations are required. Get your tix at eventbrite.com.
